In a country that is prone to typhoons and earthquakes it is not enough to rely on assistance from the government. The private companies should extend humanitarian assistance most especially because their employees, stake holders and communities may have been affected.
Whenever there is a disaster or a catastrophe, the Lopez Group of companies combines it resources to provide relief, support and assistance to the people affected by natural calamities and disasters. This is a practice which has been handed down from generation to generation and has become a part of the DNA of the Lopez Group of Companies.
Humanitarian & Disaster Relief Assistance, The Lopez Way.
EDC Answers Marawi Call
The ongoing conflict in Marawi, Lanao Del Sur has displaced thousands of residents since May of this year. Energy Development Corporation (EDC) thus launched a donation drive among its employees to help alleviate the plight of the unfortunate victims of the siege. The funds raised were then used to provide additional assistance to at least 49,000 people during two relief missions that were administered by personnel from the Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP) last June 14-16, 2017 and July 8-10, 2017.
PBSP initially targeted to raise Php10 million for the Marawi victims. However, the outpouring of support from 184 companies and individuals eventually produced a total of Php15,169,264.65 (cash and in-kind donations) as of July 11, 2017. The funds were then used to purchase relief goods that were then distributed to home-based evacuees, teachers, and frontliners such as NGO workers.
EDC employee-donors from the Bacman Geothermal Business Unit (BGBU), Negros Island Geothermal Business Unit (NIGBU), and the Head Office (in Matro Manila) combined to raise a grand total of more than Php 160,000.00 worth of cash and medicines.
On behalf of the Marawi victims, our heartfelt thanks to all those who supported this undertaking.
