Leadership Training Mixes Music and Values
"Leaders are not born, they are made…,” so said Faith Bacon of Lopez Group Foundation Inc. (LGFI) in her closing message to the scholars of Ang Misyon Inc. (AMI) during a leadership and values formation training held at the Eugenio Lopez Center in Antipolo.
LGFI and AMI, in partnership with Global Peace Foundation, University of Asia and the Pacific, and the Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA), held a twoday training for 45 scholars of the Orchestra of the Filipino Youth. The participants were selected from various AMI satellites, including Metro Manila, Cebu, Batangas, Talim Island in Laguna, and Rizal.
The training aimed to develop young leaders with exemplary values that will propel the work of AMI in the future and expand its reach to other satellites nationwide.
The scholars, who ranged in age from 11 to 24 years old, listened to lectures, did exercises, played games and took part in physical activities and reflection sessions designed to boost their leadership skills and imbue values essential to their functions as upright young musicians.
The activities also included a short theater workshop facilitated by PETA which saw the participants producing their own value-laden skits.
At the end of the two-day workshop, the scholars said they learned the value of teamwork, perseverance and how to be “walang hiya” or confident, among other things.
