Welcome to the Lopez Group Foundation, Inc. (LGFI)
To survive, any business or corporation must be useful to the society it serves.
— Oscar M. Lopez
Chairman, Lopez Group Foundation, Inc.
For more than a century, the Lopez family has practiced the concept of private business reaching out to their communities and the nation, not only in times of calamities, but as customary behavior. It is a behavior they have accepted as the norm. See Lopez History
Through the years, philanthropy has shifted to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), focusing on equipping communities to stand on their own. The beneficiaries are treated not as dependents but are educated to become active partners for social development.
Lopez Group Foundation Inc. chairman Oscar M. Lopez (center) signed the P25-million deed of donation that will enable the Asian Institute of Management (AIM) to renovate its Makati campus. Accepting the donation are AIM chairman Jose Cuisia (left) and president Edilberto de Jesus (right). The donation supplements the initial donation that the Lopezes gave in 1969 through the Eugenio Lopez Foundation Inc. to construct the AIM main building and dormitory. During the signing event, OML rededicated himself to the ideals that led his father, Eugenio H. Lopez Sr., to support AIM’s establishment. He said that being deeply committed to education, his father saw that the idea of setting up an academic institution with similar standards and methods as that of Harvard University—where his father took up Masters in Law—“was a good way of providing his most lasting legacy to the Philippines and Asia.”
Twenty Lopez Group executives and 16 Lopez family members signed recently the Lopez group corporate social responsibility (CSR) Magna Carta. Led by second generation Lopezes, Oscar, Presy and Manolo; and the third generation led by nephew Eugenio Lopez III, the signing marked the commitment of family members and chief executives to its guiding principles.
In his message to the Lopez CSR family, Oscar M. Lopez, said: “The Magna Carta for CSR is a compact that binds us to the values that define the Lopez family and the conduct of its businesses. We are all, in that sense, Lopez citizens; united by those values, yet, independent to chart our own paths.” The Lopez values are – a pioneering entrepreneurial spirit, business excellence, nationalism, team work, strong work ethic, integrity, social justice, and concern for employee welfare and wellness.
The Trustees, Officers and Staff of LGFI join me in expressing our sympathies to our countrymen and employees of the Lopez Group who were impacted by "Ondoy" and "Pepeng" in one way or another.
We also wish to express our deep admiration for all the Group's companies and their employees who quickly responed in their own way to search for unaccounted personnel and to bring relief to them and the many communities that remain distressed to this day, especially ABS-CBN Foundation's Sagip Kapamilya.
"Ondoy" and "Pepeng" raised the need for emergency preparedness, timely disaster response and a respectable degree of self-reliance. Businesses and the associations they belong to ought to now seriously consider buiding their capabilities to deal with future calamities in a focused and deliberate manner from informed decisions.
In this regard, LGFI obtained from NAMRIA and the World Wildlife Fund last week, courtesy of Gen. Diony Ventura and Vice-Chair Dr. Lori Tan, respectively, geo-hazard maps and simulations of sea level rises and its impact on the country. These can be viewed below and at this link www.lopezwellness.com
LGFI acknowledges the generous contributions of Sun Life of Canada and Pfizer for various disaster-relief and rehabilitation efforts of ABS-CBN's "Sagip Kapamilya" and "Kapit Bisig para sa Ilog Pasig." LGFI will separately recognize the funding contributions of Lopez Group companies in the future.
