To survive, any business or corporation must be useful to the society it serves.

Oscar M. Lopez
Chairman, Lopez Group Foundation, Inc.

For more than a century, the Lopez family has practiced the concept of private business reaching out to their communities and the nation, not only in times of calamities, but as customary behavior. It is a behavior they have accepted as the norm. See Lopez History

Through the years, philanthropy has shifted to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), focusing on equipping communities to stand on their own. The beneficiaries are treated not as dependents but are educated to become active partners for social development.

The CSR initiatives of the Lopez Group are aligned with the United Nation's Millennium Development Goals (or MDGs) in poverty alleviation, education, environment, and health. The Lopez Group is also a champion in advocacy through its worldwide media outlets.

Lopez Group Foundation, Inc. (LGFI) and Private Sector Mobilization for Family Health (PRISM, a USAID project) signed an agreement for Phase 2 of the Family Workplace and Maternal Child Health program.

Under the agreement, PRISM will share their expertise on program education and counseling, data management, monitoring and evaluation systems, and referral systems to the four participating companies and organizations of the Lopez group. PRISM will link them to Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and Philippine College of Occupational Medicines (PCOM) and other like-minded groups to help institutionalize sustainability mechanisms.

LGFI will coordinate and monitor the efforts of the Lopez companies to ensure objectives are met. LGFI will help organize the Family Health Management Teams (FHMT) who will be responsible for the program after the assistance of PRISM.

Oscar Lopez (Chairman of LGFI) signed the agreement with Tennyson “Don” Levy (Chief of Party of PRISM-USAID). Gina Lopez (Managing Director of ABS-CBN Foundation Inc.), Tunde Fafunwa (Chief Executive Consultant of Bayan Telecommunications), Nestor Padilla (President of Rockwell), and Anthony Fernandez (President/CEO of First Balfour) also signed the agreement.

The expansion to Phase TWO is a demonstration of the continuing commitment of LGFI to deliver to the Lopez Group employees a wide scope of options in reproductive health to enable them to maintain for their families a healthy and quality way of life.

In Phase One, the grant of PRISM to the Lopez Group was among PRISM’s first with the business sector. This Phase 2, I understand, is another first for PRISM, this time in developing the mechanism of non-grant technical assistance to the business sector.

LGFI appreciates very much that PRISM has agreed to explore this new type of collaboration. As our partnership in the past has been successful, I am confident this new phase of our partnership will also bring good experiences and highlight new practices that will benefit both our programs.

I look forward to reviewing those with you as we monitor the results of the progress of our partnership.

All my best wishes to the second batch of participating Lopez companies, to our implementing staffs, and to PRISM for our Phase 2 project together.
