Eye and dental check-up, bone scan, hearing test, massage therapy, derma consultation, blood typing, blood chemistry, blood pressure monitoring, BMI (Body Mass Index) measurement, a lecture on prostate detection and cancer, and other health services from top medical companies—all for free. Over a thousand kapamilyas got such privilege—without leaving their offices—during the day-long "Health and Wellness Fair," held last May 23 at the 13th Floor in ELJ Building. Gracing the ribbon-cutting ceremonies were Raffy M. Alunan (President, First Philippine Infrastructure Dev’t Corp., and Head, Wellness Program for the whole Lopez Group of Companies), Senator Alfredo Lim, celebrity and wellness expert Cory Quirino, and Cedie Vargas (VP for Logistics, ABS-CBN). ABS-CBN’s Employee Relations and Clinic Services Section (HR Division), led by Jig Blanco Yan and Liza Rey, mounted the event to create awareness among ABS-CBN employees to be conscious of their health conditions. "It is aligned to support the directive of Lopez Group Chairman Oscar M. Lopez to make wellness a priority of the group," says Yan. Rey adds that "the fair is our simple way of showing that we care for our kapamilya in ABS-CBN." More than 50 pharmaceutical and nutritional companies, hospitals, diagnostic clinics, fitness centers, and publishing companies participated in the said fair. According to Yan, they "aimed for such variety of exhibitors, believing that the approach towards wellness should be holistic—it should not only involve the body but the mind and spirit as well." Participating companies also raffled off various prizes and gave away medicine samples, health magazines, and primers on health problems ranging from hair loss to breast cancer.
The fair saw employees from practically every department of the network and its subsidiaries. "Sa lahat ng mga kapamilya namin, maraming maraming salamat," the organizers said.. Rey adds that, with the success of the first ABS-CBN Health and Wellness Fair, they will work on making it an annual event. |

"It’s like having my annual medical check-up, only better," comments Andrea, a newly hired ABS-CBN employee. Yan also noted that a number of employees donated blood during the said fair, "proving that kapamilyas are also into giving something, not just receiving."
