A year has passed since the oil spill in Guimaras and the Lopez family, through the Lopez Group Foundation Inc. (LGFI), continues their commitment to help the victims of Brgy. La Paz, Nueva Valencia, Guimaras.
Forty-eight malnourished children and their parents participated in LGFI’s Bantay Kalusugan Feeding Program last September 7, 2007. Nueva Valencia Mayor Alejandro D. Araneta opened the Feeding Program through the symbolic breaking of the bread together with Nono Zaragoza, LGFI representative and Mary Grace R. Solinap, ABS-CBN Foundation’s Bantay Bata 163 Iloilo Program Manager.
Mayor Araneta encouraged the parents to cooperate and participate in the feeding program and asked LGFI to sponsor the same Feeding Program in other barangays of Nueva Valencia. He mentioned that for the past year Brgy. La Paz was number 1 in Malnutrition in the municipality of Nueva Valencia and through the Barangay Council, a feeding program was launched last year. Through LGFI and Bantay Bata 163 Iloilo the Feeding Program will continue to benefit the malnourished and daycare children of La Paz.
Mary Grace R. Solinap of Bantay Bata 163 Iloilo oriented parents on proper nutrition while Erber Fe Tirado, Bantay Bata Community Education and Research Officer facilitated activities with the children.
A medical check-up for the children and their family members followed. Vitamins and medicines were distributed. Rural Health Unit and representative from DOH helped in the medical check-up, the common diseases identified were fever, cough and colds.
